A small family business, engraving one order at a time.
Lucent Labs engraves glassware with a UV laser from a workshop in North Walsham, Norfolk. It is a small family business, with over forty years of glass engraving behind it.
The other half of that is Glyptic Glass Art, where we hand sandblast wildlife, dog breeds and countryside designs onto glassware — ready-made pieces bought as gifts, rather than a mark made to a brief. Lucent Labs is the side that puts your own mark on the glass.
We started on the marketplaces, engraving gifts and one-offs, and kept being asked for the same thing by pubs, breweries and offices: a proper set of glasses with their own mark on them, done well, without a five-hundred-glass minimum. That is what this is now.
Every order is set up by hand, checked against the mockup, and inspected before it is wrapped. Nothing leaves the bench that we would not be happy to be given.
Engraved, not printed
Nothing is applied to the surface. No vinyl, no ink, no transfer. The mark is engraved into the glass itself, so it survives a commercial glasswasher and a few years of service without fading at the edges.
Why UV
A UV laser works cold and at a much finer spot size than the CO₂ machines most engravers use. Fine type holds, small crests stay readable, and the finish comes out smooth rather than chipped.
Checked by hand
Every glass is inspected against the approved mockup before it is wrapped. If one is not right it does not go in the box, and we engrave another. You are not paying for our seconds.

Everything is engraved, checked and packed here. Nothing is sent out to a third party, which is why a mockup usually comes back the same day rather than the following week.
